Khamseh was a Southern Persia confederation of tribes whose rugs are stylistically and geographically related to the Qashqai and Afshar traditions.
Antique Persian Khamseh Rugs are particularly well-known for their eccentric use of various tribal and zoomorphic devices.

The "murgi" motif is the most prized Khamseh design, which is typically interpreted as a dense field of up to one hundred flying birds incorporated within and around one to three diamond-shaped medallions. Like that of other nomadic weavings from the mountainous Fars region, ornamentation is frequently varied and augmented by naturally dyed hues of saturated intensity.
