The deep blue field with an allover design of polychrome 'Herati', within a tangerine border enclosing continuous turtle palmettes linked by angular vines issuing flower heads ending in curled hooked leaves, secondary pale blue borders enclosing continuous flower heads and diagonal hooked vines.

The reverse knotting detail confirms this to be of the origin as stated in the Guarantee Line. Persian Saruk and carpets derive their name from a relatively small town in Persia, located twenty miles north of Arak (formerly Sultanabad). Over a short span of history, this town has produced some of the most highly regarded Persian weavings of the late 19th to early 20th century as a major contributing centre of Persian urban weaving 'revival'. Both large scale carpets and smaller decorative rugs are made here, with designs often based on recognised and established 17th Century Safavid Persian urban designs. This decorative Saruk carpet displays a design which is frequently seen in Saruk weavings and is referred to as the 'herati' design. The 'herati' design is an all over repeat pattern formed by a number of individual floral elements combined together and then repeated. It is normally made up of a flower head framed by a rhombus linked to a set of four leaves, and then repeated to form an all over design. The origins of the 'herati' pattern date back to the late 16th and early 17th century, and is seen in Safavid Persian Court carpets of that time. The design can be seen in varying scales. The early versions tend to display bold open renditions of the pattern details, whereas this example is based on a popular style as seen in the 'revivalist' period of Persian woven art dating from the late 19th century, through to the present day. The 'herati' pattern has always been a popular pattern in decorative furnishing rugs and is created in varying guises throughout the Eastern rug making world. The colours are from a characteristic extensive regional colour palette, the tones of which indicate that this carpet was probably made around 1950 - 1960. Vacuuming

Regular vacuuming keeps your rug looking its best and extends its lifespan, reducing the need for professional cleaning. For best results, vacuum both the front and back sides of the rug from side to side, avoiding the fringes.

Spills

If spills occur, blot them immediately with a cloth. Then spray water on the spot and blot again, repeating as needed. For pet urine, spray white vinegar to help break down the enzymes that cause odor.

Professional Rug Cleaning

It’s generally recommended to have your rug professionally cleaned every five years, but trust your instincts—if it appears to need cleaning, don’t hesitate to have it washed. Hand-knotted carpets should never be dry cleaned or steam cleaned. Wall-to-wall carpet cleaning companies are usually not a good option.
