5x7 rugs are considered a standard size by all manufacturers and retailers. For instance, small area rugs measure 5” or below and medium-sized rugs are between 5’1” and 8’6”, while large rugs can be sized anywhere from 8’7” to 12”. Extra large rugs for basements or open living rooms are bigger than 12”.

5x7 rugs measure approximately 1.5 meters by 2 meters, or 60 inches by 80 inches. Since our rugs are handmade, each one varies in size. These medium-sized area rugs are perfect for a small apartment living room or office, and can also add a pop of color and texture to larger rooms or event spaces.

An area rug should be 18 to 24 inches bigger than the edges of a queen-size mattress, which measures 60 x 80 inches, while a 5x7 rug is only 60 x 84 inches. Although we’d recommend sizing up for the perfect fit, 5x7 rugs can work in smaller bedrooms, especially if you remove nightstands.

As a medium area rug, 5x7 rugs are ideal for placing in small living rooms and entryways, office spaces, or between the sink and kitchen island. Try using a 5x7 rug to liven up a reading nook or place it under the front legs of a sofa, with the back legs on the bare floor, to create a cozier space.

Hand-knotted or woven 5x7 area rugs should be deep cleaned every 12 to 18 months using special methods, such as hot water extraction and proper grooming. We’d therefore always recommend leaving 5x7 rug cleaning to a specialist like our Rug Shui service.

8x10 rugs are generally the recommended size for living rooms, particularly when it comes to filling the visual space of the seating area and having the front legs of your furniture placed around the edges. However, if you prefer to keep sofa and chair legs from touching the floor, a 5x7 rug is the ideal size for your living room.
