Distressed Rugs for Sale

The current selection brings together available rugs chosen for a softened, worn or faded visual character. Regional labels can include Persian Tabriz, Mahal, Kashan, Kashmar, Hamadan, Hosseinabad, Sirjan, Shiraz, Ardabil and Luri examples, as well as occasional Caucasian pieces. Small rugs, room-size pieces, large rugs and runners may appear as inventory changes.

Distressed describes appearance, not one origin, age or production method. A rug may show natural wear, a deliberate finishing treatment or a combination of conditions. The category name should not be used to assume how a specific piece acquired its surface or color.

Evaluate Patina and Condition Separately

Look at how much of the original pattern remains legible and whether the lower pile is even or concentrated in particular areas. Fading, abrash, exposed foundation, repairs and edge or end condition are different observations and can affect both appearance and placement. A softened palette may suit a quiet room, but it is not evidence of age, natural dye or structural strength.

FAQ

Are your distressed rugs durable enough for busy family rooms?

Yes. Provided they haven’t been stripped with harsh chemicals that weaken wool. Our low‑pH wash preserves fibre strength, and abrasion‑resistance studies predict decades of service under normal traffic.

How do I clean a distressed rug if I have toddlers or pets?

The thin pile keeps crumbs and pet hair near the surface, so one pass with a standard vacuum usually does the trick. For spills, blot, dilute with cool water and a few drops of dish soap, and blot again; wool’s natural lanolin is forgiving. Then, make sure to let it dry.

Will the colours bleed or fade when I spot‑clean?

No. The first professional wash flushes out any unstable dye; what remains is fully colour‑fast. Properly mordanted natural reds and indigos hold up beautifully to both washing and sunlight.

What’s the difference between vintage, distressed and over‑dyed rugs?

Vintage rugs mean they are 20–100 years old. Distressed refers to authentic age‑softened or antique‑washed sheared pile. Over‑dyed rugs are re-colored in strong dyes, a process not usually used in this collection.

Will a rug pad help with your vintage rugs?

Purely personal preference. A pad prevents slippage. Choose a thin natural rubber pad if you like the rug to sit low or a thicker felt‑and‑rubber pad for extra cushion under your unique distressed area rugs and runners.

Are they environmentally friendly?

Absolutely. By giving these carpets a second life we avoid the carbon and water footprint of new production and keep high‑quality wool and cotton out of landfill.

Do these rugs shed?

Hand‑knotted wool sheds far less than tufted or machine‑made pieces. Any loose fibres in the first weeks are leftovers from final shearing and vacuum away quickly.

Are the rugs one‑of‑a‑kind?

They are. Each was woven to the fixed dimensions of its original loom; once it left the weaver’s home, no identical twin exists.
