Imagine stepping into a room and instantly being drawn to a jewel-like burst of color on the floor. That’s exactly the effect this vintage Kerman rug delivers. Woven in Iran during the 1970s, it features a hand-knotted wool pile on a sturdy cotton foundation, all done with time-honored techniques and vegetable-based dyes.
Mesmerizing Color Palette
The field is a vibrant azure blue—close to a rich cerulean—that’s peppered with delicate floral motifs in soft peach, coral-pink, and creamy ivory. As your eye moves outward, you’ll notice the spandrels in each corner pick up the coral tones beautifully, while the main border contrasts with an inky navy backdrop, brimming with lush red and blush accents. The interplay of these hues is both striking and harmonious, a hallmark of Kerman artistry.
Classic Kerman Design
Kerman rugs are revered for their intricate floral patterns, and this piece is no exception. At its center, you’ll find a symmetric medallion flanked by elegant arabesques and floral sprays that echo throughout the field. Each blossom is precisely rendered—almost painterly in detail—creating a balanced, symmetrical composition that feels timeless yet lively.
Quality & Craftsmanship
With a 7 mm, medium-low pile, this rug strikes the perfect balance between softness underfoot and everyday practicality. The wool pile is durable yet inviting, and the cotton foundation provides stability. Decades after it was woven, the pile has worn slightly low in places—common for a rug of this age—but it remains in good overall condition with plenty of life left.
Versatile Placement
Thanks to its approximately 5 by 8 size, this rug is wonderfully adaptable. It can anchor a seating area in your living room, bring warmth and personality to a home office, or serve as a welcoming focal point in a bedroom. The classic floral design and balanced palette suit both traditional and eclectic interiors, allowing you to effortlessly incorporate it into your décor.
In short, this vintage Persian Kerman is more than just a floor covering—it’s a piece of art that carries the history and craftsmanship of Iranian rug weaving. Its vibrant palette, floral medallion design, and gentle patina make it a special find for anyone seeking a statement piece full of character and heritage.

Care Instructions
Vacuuming
Regular vacuuming keeps your rug looking its best and extends its lifespan, reducing the need for professional cleaning. For best results, vacuum both the front and back sides of the rug from side to side, avoiding the fringes.
Spills
If spills occur, blot them immediately with a cloth. Then spray water on the spot and blot again, repeating as needed. For pet urine, spray white vinegar to help break down the enzymes that cause odor.
Professional Rug Cleaning
It’s generally recommended to have your rug professionally cleaned every five years, but trust your instincts—if it appears to need cleaning, don’t hesitate to have it washed. Hand-knotted carpets should never be dry cleaned or steam cleaned. Wall-to-wall carpet cleaning companies are usually not a good option. Always choose a professional rug cleaner who specializes in cleaning fine, handwoven carpets. If you’re in the GTA, we can provide professional rug cleaning for you!
