Shahsavan Rugs

Shahsavan, also written Shahsevan, refers to communities with important weaving traditions in northwest Iran. Their textile heritage includes pile rugs as well as bags, covers and flatwoven objects. Geometric motifs and durable wool construction are common, but attribution requires attention to structure and provenance rather than motif alone.

Browse the available Shahsavan rugs below. The Shahsavan entry in our illustrated Persian rug guide explains how this tradition relates to Ardabil, Azerbaijan and neighboring tribal groups. See the complete Persian rug collection for more regions.
