About Malayer Rugs:
Malayer is a town in Northwest Persia located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk. In Malayer and the small villages surrounding it, production was almost exclusively small antique rugs and runners made by individual weavers in the 19th and early 20th-centuries.
n some of the larger villages, a very limited number of larger Persian carpets up to 10ft by 13ft were woven on the family level. Oversized antique carpets, which were woven on commission, are extremely rare.
Some of the most decorative Persian village weavings were created in Malayer and the surrounding villages. At the highest levels, each Malayer Oriental carpet is unique, with the weavers drawing from a large pool of designs and investing a great deal of originality in their creation.
