A repeating square motif can be seen throughout this Hamadan rug. With a simple geometric form, the weaver’s imagination has created a truly distinctive design.
The stepped shape of the two large medallions is also in complete harmony with the small square motif used across the rug. Along the two side borders, near the selvages, the weaver has introduced an inventive design: large serrated forms, once again built from small squares.
The narrow and wide borders of the rug are also woven in balance and harmony with this same motif.
It is fair to say that this rug was woven by a highly skilled weaver. Its composition is original, confident, and very unlikely to have a counterpart.
