Persian Hashtroud Runner | 3' 5" × 11' 4"

Regular price $2,750.00

The diagonal movement is the first thing to notice in this NW Persian Hashtroud runner. Fine bands of red, navy and cream run across the field at an angle, carrying the eye from side to side as well as along its length. This gives the rug an energetic surface, with colour distributed throughout the composition.

At closer range, the bands reveal their small patterned details. They are more intricate than plain stripes, yet they combine into a clear overall rhythm when viewed from farther away. The straight border provides a useful counterbalance to the diagonals, keeping the lively centre contained within a well-defined frame.

At over eleven feet long and three feet five inches wide, it could make a strong visual connection through a generous hallway. It would also be interesting beside furniture with simple, straight lines, where the diagonal pattern adds movement. Picking up just one of its colours in nearby textiles or artwork would let the runner feel connected to the room without repeating its busy pattern everywhere.

Hashtroud lies in East Azerbaijan in northwestern Iran, within one of Persia's historically important carpet-producing regions. Nineteenth-century accounts identify Azerbaijan among the country's principal weaving areas, and research on the period notes the persistence of regional designs even as export demand changed the industry. This runner offers a distinctive example of the area's variety: its diagonal bands organise the whole field, giving repeated small details a strong direction and a lively overall rhythm.

Please Consider

Our rugs are truly unique and crafted with care. Their vintage and handmade nature means they may have imperfections and signs of wear, which add character. Each rug is handmade, so it may not be a perfect rectangle.

We strive to capture the rugs’ true colors in daylight photography, but they might appear slightly different in low-light environments or on different screen settings.

We’re happy to provide photos taken in different lighting or answer any questions.

Feel free to reach out if you need more information or assistance.

Care Instructions

Vacuuming

Regular vacuuming keeps your rug looking its best and extends its lifespan, reducing the need for professional cleaning. For best results, vacuum both the front and back sides of the rug from side to side, avoiding the fringes.

Spills

If spills occur, blot them immediately with a cloth. Then spray water on the spot and blot again, repeating as needed. For pet urine, spray white vinegar to help break down the enzymes that cause odor.

Professional Rug Cleaning

It’s generally recommended to have your rug professionally cleaned every five years, but trust your instincts—if it appears to need cleaning, don’t hesitate to have it washed. Hand-knotted carpets should never be dry cleaned or steam cleaned. Wall-to-wall carpet cleaning companies are usually not a good option. Always choose a professional rug cleaner who specializes in cleaning fine, handwoven carpets. If you’re in the GTA, we can provide professional rug cleaning for you!

Rug Pads

Using a rug pad with your vintage rug may extend its life and provide extra traction and protection for your floors. To learn more about the pros and cons of rug pads, read this article.
