An Ocean-Blue Heriz with Quiet Grandeur
Heriz, located in East Azerbaijan Province, is one of the most important centres of rural handwoven rugs in Iran, with a reputation known around the world. Historically, almost every type of village rug design was produced in the Heriz region, whether by local villagers, Tabriz merchants, or even foreign companies.
The designs known as plain field rugs are among the most beautiful rugs produced in Heriz. They were first woven in this region with the taste of American buyers in mind, and later became highly appreciated by many collectors and customers around the world.
This Heriz rug features the Tajeri design, also known locally as Tajli, one of the well-known designs of the Heriz and Goravan regions. It has been beautifully woven with local materials and traditional dyes on an ocean-blue field.
With a little attention and imagination, the central medallion can be seen like a beautiful island set within a calm ocean, giving the rug a peaceful and soothing feeling. The elegant pendant motifs extend gently toward the border, adding balance and movement to the composition.
The elements and motifs of the Tajeri design originally came from a curvilinear urban pattern. In the hands of skilled village weavers, they were transformed with beauty and skill into a geometric design, one that has become recognized as an independent pattern in its own right.
The border of this rug is known locally as Baligh-Shamama, meaning “fish and melon.” It is one of the most attractive border designs found in Heriz weavings. Despite its simplicity, it is also one of the most widely used border patterns in the region.
Because of its open design and calming colour palette, this rug has a refined and formal character. It can work beautifully even in busier interiors, bringing a sense of warmth, calm, and quiet elegance to the space.

Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) in North America
For Canada and the USA, no duties or import fees will apply at delivery (effective August 2025).
Returns
We accept returns up to 7 days after delivery if the item is unused and in its original condition. We will refund the full order amount for the item(s), but the customer is responsible for return shipping costs.
Care Instructions
Vacuuming
Regular vacuuming keeps your rug looking its best and extends its lifespan, reducing the need for professional cleaning. For best results, vacuum both the front and back sides of the rug from side to side, avoiding the fringes.
Spills
If spills occur, blot them immediately with a cloth. Then spray water on the spot and blot again, repeating as needed. For pet urine, spray white vinegar to help break down the enzymes that cause odor.
Professional Rug Cleaning
It’s generally recommended to have your rug professionally cleaned every five years, but trust your instincts—if it appears to need cleaning, don’t hesitate to have it washed. Hand-knotted carpets should never be dry cleaned or steam cleaned. Wall-to-wall carpet cleaning companies are usually not a good option. Always choose a professional rug cleaner who specializes in cleaning fine, handwoven carpets. If you’re in the GTA, we can provide professional rug cleaning for you!
