Persian Tabriz Rug | 3' 2" × 5'

Regular price $610.00

The appeal of this circa-1960s Tabriz rug lies in the spacing of its small motifs and the restraint of its palette. Blue-grey details sit across a light beige field, with enough ground visible between them for each form to register. The result is patterned and expressive, yet visually quiet.

Look more closely and the repeat begins to reveal its rhythm: small forms, pale intervals and darker accents recur across the surface. The border gathers those same tones into a denser band, giving the light field a defined edge. This consistent scale makes the rug easy to appreciate as a whole, even when viewed at an angle or partly overlapped by furniture.

Its modest three-by-five-foot proportions would suit a bedside, a small reading area or the space in front of a chest. Linen, pale wood and blue-grey upholstery would continue its gentle colour relationships. A darker piece of furniture could give the setting more contrast while allowing the rug's detailed surface to remain a quiet point of interest.

Tabriz, in northwestern Iran, has long combined carpet weaving with an important role in trade. During the nineteenth century it became a major route through which carpets from the city and other parts of Iran reached export markets. Research also records a broad local design vocabulary, from medallion compositions to repeating floral patterns and pictorial work. This rug expresses a quieter side of that variety, using small, regularly spaced motifs and a restrained palette to create interest across the whole surface.

Please Consider

Our rugs are truly unique and crafted with care. Their vintage and handmade nature means they may have imperfections and signs of wear, which add character. Each rug is handmade, so it may not be a perfect rectangle.

We strive to capture the rugs’ true colors in daylight photography, but they might appear slightly different in low-light environments or on different screen settings.

We’re happy to provide photos taken in different lighting or answer any questions.

Feel free to reach out if you need more information or assistance.

Care Instructions

Vacuuming

Regular vacuuming keeps your rug looking its best and extends its lifespan, reducing the need for professional cleaning. For best results, vacuum both the front and back sides of the rug from side to side, avoiding the fringes.

Spills

If spills occur, blot them immediately with a cloth. Then spray water on the spot and blot again, repeating as needed. For pet urine, spray white vinegar to help break down the enzymes that cause odor.

Professional Rug Cleaning

It’s generally recommended to have your rug professionally cleaned every five years, but trust your instincts—if it appears to need cleaning, don’t hesitate to have it washed. Hand-knotted carpets should never be dry cleaned or steam cleaned. Wall-to-wall carpet cleaning companies are usually not a good option. Always choose a professional rug cleaner who specializes in cleaning fine, handwoven carpets. If you’re in the GTA, we can provide professional rug cleaning for you!

Rug Pads

Using a rug pad with your vintage rug may extend its life and provide extra traction and protection for your floors. To learn more about the pros and cons of rug pads, read this article.
