Vist is a village within the wider Arak rug-weaving region. In rugs from Vist (aka Viss or Wiss), you will find the same weaving technique and quality as in Arak, yet this village has its own distinctive design, one that is especially characteristic of this area.
The design features a relatively open field with three medallions: one large hexagonal medallion in the centre, and two smaller diamond-shaped medallions with angular, serrated edges. There is also a sense of repeated serrated forms moving from the corner pieces and borders toward the centre of the rug.
Another important characteristic of this village is its exceptional vegetable dyeing. The colours have great strength, stability, and lasting power, which places Wiss rugs in a very high category in terms of durability.
This combination of strong weaving, village character, and beautifully enduring colour gives the rug a quiet confidence and a distinctive presence.
