Persian Zanjan Runner | 3' 2" × 10' 10"

Regular price $2,128.00

The warm camel-beige ground is what first gives this Zanjan runner its welcoming character. Blue floral forms and curling stems travel across it, introducing a cooler counterpoint to the earthy colour. There is a flowing quality to the drawing that becomes especially apparent over the runner's long proportions.

The border has an important role here. Its darker ground gives the softer colours in the field a defined edge, and its repeating decoration echoes the floral movement within. Seen together, the field and border create two distinct impressions: gentle, meandering detail at the centre and a more pronounced frame around it.

This combination would suit a hallway where you want pattern and warmth without making every surrounding element equally colourful. Oak, walnut, linen and chalky wall finishes could all sit comfortably beside it. At three feet two inches wide, it has enough breadth to show its floral drawing clearly; leaving a visible margin of flooring would give the dark border room to frame the rug.

Location & weaving tradition

Zanjan's carpet tradition extends beyond the city into a network of village weaving centres. A Persian study of Bidganeh identifies Qoltuq and Bidganeh in the Ijrud area among the region's established centres, and describes how cultural contact and trade with neighbouring provinces influenced local production. This village-by-village diversity helps explain why Zanjan rugs can have such different personalities. Here, the flowing floral drawing and warm ground create a softer expression within that varied regional tradition.

Please Consider

Our rugs are truly unique and crafted with care. Their vintage and handmade nature means they may have imperfections and signs of wear, which add character. Each rug is handmade, so it may not be a perfect rectangle.

We strive to capture the rugs’ true colors in daylight photography, but they might appear slightly different in low-light environments or on different screen settings.

We’re happy to provide photos taken in different lighting or answer any questions.

Feel free to reach out if you need more information or assistance.

For every rug you purchase, we plant one tree.

Care Instructions

Vacuuming

Regular vacuuming keeps your rug looking its best and extends its lifespan, reducing the need for professional cleaning. For best results, vacuum both the front and back sides of the rug from side to side, avoiding the fringes.

Spills

If spills occur, blot them immediately with a cloth. Then spray water on the spot and blot again, repeating as needed. For pet urine, spray white vinegar to help break down the enzymes that cause odor.

Professional Rug Cleaning

It’s generally recommended to have your rug professionally cleaned every five years, but trust your instincts—if it appears to need cleaning, don’t hesitate to have it washed. Hand-knotted carpets should never be dry cleaned or steam cleaned. Wall-to-wall carpet cleaning companies are usually not a good option. Always choose a professional rug cleaner who specializes in cleaning fine, handwoven carpets. If you’re in the GTA, we can provide professional rug cleaning for you!

Rug Pads

Using a rug pad with your vintage rug may extend its life and provide extra traction and protection for your floors. To learn more about the pros and cons of rug pads, read this article.
