Collectors, dealers, and newcomers have brought countless heirloom-quality carpets into the city, so buyers are spoiled for choice.
That popularity, however, comes with a caveat: a handful of shops now sell look-alike pieces and mass-made "Persian-style" rugs under the same label.
I don't see this as much elsewhere in Canada, so it pays to do a little homework before you hand over your credit card. Check each store's background, ask where the rugs were sourced, and make sure they can speak confidently about wool quality, age, and weaving origins.
