Avoid spills, but if they do occur, blot them immediately with a cloth, then spray water on the spot of the spill and blot again, and repeat as needed. Spray white vinegar on pet urine to help break down the enzymes that cause the bad odour.

The usual time to have your rug professionally cleaned is about 5 years, but you should trust your instincts. When your rugs appear to require cleaning, follow your instincts and have them washed. Hand knotted carpets should never be dry cleaned or steam cleaned. Wall to wall carpet cleaning companies are usually not a good option.
