Totemic Luri Runner in Madder Red (3’1” x 8’8”)
Tribal, graphic, and all-wool from western Persia.
This vintage Luri runner has that bold, totemic look the tribe is loved for. The field is a saturated madder red with natural abrash that shifts gently from brick to russet as you move along the length. Marching up the center are stacked diamond medallions and chalice-like devices, drawn in deep walnut brown with inky accents. Between them, small pinwheel rosettes act like protective amulets. The border is a serrated zigzag that frames the composition with real energy.
It is hand knotted in a wool pile on a wool foundation from western Persia, circa 1970s, so the handle is supple and the surface has that quiet, velvety sheen you only get with tribal wool.
Design-wise, this is classic Luri geometry: big shapes, clear negative space, and a palette that plays well with woods, stone, and black metal. At 3’1” x 8’8”, it is made for a hallway, a kitchen galley, along a bed, or in front of a long console. If you are after a runner that reads warm, graphic, and authentically village-made, this one delivers without trying too hard.
